Who funds Zcash?

A 20 percent portion of Zcash mining rewards funds three organizations focused on Zcash development and community.

In November 2020, the Zcash community established a new Zcash development fund and further decentralized Zcash governance. The fund, set to expire in 2024, continues to reward miners with 80 percent of Zcash issuance, while 20 percent is distributed to three organizations. The Zcash Community Grants program receives 8 percent of the total block reward (or about 40 percent of the dev fund) to support independent third-party developers. Electric Coin Co., the inventors of Zcash, receives 7 percent of the total rewards, and the remaining 5 percent of rewards goes to support the work of the Zcash Foundation.
