You can buy, sell or trade Zcash on a number of online marketplaces called exchanges. Individual exchanges offer different options, like which assets you can buy or swap. For every transaction you make, the exchange will take a small fee — typically a fraction of a percent — in order to act as a broker for that transaction.

DISCLAIMER: For your safety, it is recommended that you do your own research before using an exchange. After acquiring Zcash, consider whether moving it to a wallet would be a safer option than keeping it on the exchange.

* Real 10 lists exchanges with significant and legitimate reported trading volume, measured by Messari (originally introduced by Bitwise). Electric Coin Co. has no formal partnership with Messari but is a subscriber to its Pro data package.

Finding the right exchange

Fees, ease-of-use, insurance and security policies, and asset availablity will differ between exchanges. And some exchanges have stricter or looser anti-money-laundering (AML) requirements. Most — not all — first-time cryptocurrency buyers start on a large, well-established exchange like Coinbase, Binance, Gemini, or Kraken, but the Zcash Foundation and Electric Coin Co. do not endorse any exchange over another.
